About the Hong Kong address data

Sources

Districts, streets, villages, and building names come from the Hong Kong Address Lookup Service (ALS), published on data.gov.hk by the Lands Department under the DATA.GOV.HK open data licence. Every page shows its verification date. Names are stored in English as published.

Hong Kong has no postal code

Hong Kong does not use a postal or ZIP code system, and the official address dataset has no code field. Mail is sorted by district, street, and building. The last line of a Hong Kong address is one of three regions: Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, or the New Territories. When an online form insists on a postal code, you can leave it blank or enter the widely used placeholder 999077, which is a convention, not an official code.

Each street page groups every address on that street, gives the correctly ordered address to copy, and links to nearby streets in the same district.

How we compile the data

Addresses are grouped by street or village, and each is placed in one of Hong Kong's 18 districts as published in the source. Before use, the data passes automated checks, among them: every street must belong to a valid district, slugs must be unique, names must not be empty or broken, and the snapshot date must not be in the future. Streets with only a single address are not indexed by search engines.

Updates

The address data is a dated snapshot, not real time, so newer buildings and streets may be missing and some entries may be outdated; for anything important, reconfirm with the building or Hongkong Post.

Limits

If a value cannot be traced to the source, it is left blank, not guessed. If you find incorrect data, please report it.
