How to write a Qatar address

Qatar uses the national Anwani (QNAS) addressing system: a zone number, a street number, and a building number. There is no postal code. The three numbers are shown on the blue plate outside every building, or can be looked up on qnas.qa.

The postal code field

Qatar addresses carry no postal code. If a form will not submit without one, leave it blank or enter 00000, a widely used placeholder. Your zone number is the real locator. See whether Qatar has a postal code.

The state or province field

Qatar has no state or province. When a form requires one, enter your municipality, such as Doha, Al Rayyan, or Al Wakrah. If the form does not accept those, enter Qatar.

The phone number field

Qatar numbers have eight digits and the country calling code is +974. For an international form, write the number as +974 1234 5678. A working mobile number matters in Qatar because couriers call to arrange delivery.

Finding your zone, street, and building

Read the three numbers off the blue address plate on your building: the zone number is at the top, then the street number, then the building number. If there is no plate, drop a pin at your location on qnas.qa, the official national address portal, to get all three.

Common mistakes to avoid

Adding a ZIP or postal code. Qatar has none. A made-up number can slow or misroute mail; use 00000 only if a form demands a value.
Leaving out the zone number. The zone is the main locator in Qatar. Always include it.
Writing a street name instead of a number. Qatar streets are numbered, not named. Use the street number from the blue plate.
Forgetting the phone number. Couriers in Qatar phone the recipient, so an address without a mobile number often cannot be delivered.
