Find a UAE area
Type an emirate or area
No. The UAE has no postal code.
The United Arab Emirates does not use a postal or ZIP code system. Mail is delivered to a PO Box rather than to a street address, so there is no code to look up. On an online form that insists on a postal code, you can leave the field blank or enter 00000, a widely used placeholder that is not an official code.
What to put in each form field
Because the UAE address does not fit a Western form, the postal code and state fields are where people get stuck. Here is what each field expects.
| Postal / ZIP code | Leave blank, or enter 00000 (a placeholder, not an official code). |
| State / Province | Your emirate, for example Dubai or Abu Dhabi. |
| City | Your area, for example Deira, Al Barsha, or Dubai Marina. |
| Country | United Arab Emirates. |
| Phone | +971 then your mobile number, so the courier can call. |
How mail actually reaches you
In the UAE, delivery relies on the PO Box, the area, the emirate, and your phone number rather than on a street address and code. A typical address is written from the recipient down to the country: the recipient, then the PO Box number, then the area, then the emirate, and finally the United Arab Emirates. Couriers phone the recipient to arrange handover, so a +971 mobile number is part of a complete address. For a worked example, see how to write a UAE address.
Dubai community numbers
Dubai adds one more layer that the other emirates do not. Dubai Municipality assigns an official community number to each area, used on maps and property records. It is not a postal code, but it does identify an area precisely. Where a Dubai area has a known community number, its page on this site shows it.
The seven emirates
Browse any emirate below to find its areas, PO Box guidance, and address format.
- Dubai. Deira, Bur Dubai, Jumeirah, Al Barsha, Dubai Marina, and hundreds more communities.
- Abu Dhabi. The capital, plus Al Ain and the Western Region.
- Sharjah. The third city, adjoining Dubai to the north.
- Ajman. The smallest emirate by area, on the northern coast.
- Umm Al Quwain. A quiet northern emirate on the Gulf coast.
- Ras Al Khaimah. The northernmost emirate, known for its mountains and coast.
- Fujairah. The only emirate mainly on the Gulf of Oman, east coast.
No postal code is invented here; where the UAE has none, the page says so. If you find an area that is wrong or missing, please report it.
