What the 3 digits mean

Oman's postal code is deliberately short. According to the Universal Postal Union country file, the first digit marks the region and the last two digits identify the post office that serves the area. Because the code is regional rather than street-level, a single code can cover a fairly wide area, and it is always written together with a PO Box number that pins the exact recipient. Each area page on this site shows the 3-digit code and breaks down what its digits mean, so the number is never presented without context.

How an Oman address is written

Oman delivers to a PO Box, so an address is written from the recipient down to the country: the recipient, then the PO Box number, then the area, then the 3-digit postal code with the governorate, and finally Oman. The PO Box number and the code together route the mail. Oman phone numbers have eight digits and the country calling code is +968, so a complete address usually includes a mobile number. A note on accuracy

Some directories list sequential facility numbers next to Oman post offices; those are internal identifiers, not postal codes, and they are deliberately excluded here so no false code is published. The codes on this site are compiled from the official Oman Post office locator and cross-checked against the UPU country file.
